layne to rest

Alice in Chains, a band, a great band, a brainchild between guitarist jerry cantell and late lead vocalist layne staley. AIC was part of a grundge explosion in the 90′s and produced many a great track in the day. Rooster, Man in the Box, Angry Chair, Dam that River, and Them Bones were amung my very favorite songs my whole life, Alice in Chains were asured greatness. the only thing holding AIC back was the addiction Layne had with drugs, which claimed his life in 2002. 2002, was a long time ago, since then Alice in Chains had sorta slug back in the minds of grundge/rock fans… until now.

[enter] Black Gives way to Blue!

finally a new studio album from one of my favorite bands! but lets hold on a minute before rushing in- its been a long time, their very distinct lead singer is gone, and grundge is no longer as accepted today as it used to be- it seemed to me that too much has changed for Alice in Chains during their unfortunate break, how would they manage?

they manage, their album black gives way to blue breathes true to their previous work. i was afraid too much would be different, but i am actually very pleased at all that they have kept similar. they have this new lead singer for them- he is no layne staley, but he is certainly alice in chains material. william duvall is his name, singing is his game, and he is good. this new singer keeps the snarl/sing fashion layne pioneered, and honestly his voice is very compatable to cantell’s guitar- which is just as great.

i have not been keeping count, but alice in chains’ new studio album black gives way to blue recieves positive brownie points for sure- i’m feeling lazy today. what i thaught would be negative factors for this album (new singer, new age, no clue) have just been my ignorant bias of anything less than that of staley for the band. i have been proven very wrong and it does feel good.

all secrets known, check my brain, last of my kind, your decision, a looking in view, when the sun rose again, acid bubble, lesson learned, take her out, private hell, and black gives way to blue are my favorite songs on this new album…

buy, listen, enjoy, thank me
